TASC Update - October 24

Information for UKCP registrants
TASC want to remind current and future UKCP registrants via UKATA, that UKCP registration requires membership of two bodies; UKCP and the member organisation of UKCP which placed them on the UKCP register, such as UKATA. We are finding a number of people are choosing not to renew their membership of UKATA once they become UKCP registrants – and this then, unfortunately, invalidates their UKCP registration.
Mental Health Familiarisation Process
UKATA TASC has recently updated the information on our website regarding the mental health familiarisation process that is a requirement for those seeking UKCP registration. There are two documents candidates for UKCP registration should be aware of, both now on our website; the general UKCP information about Mental Health Familiarisation and the specific information produced by the college of UKCP which UKATA is a member of, the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College (HIPC). This second document has been in circulation since 2018 but we have only recently become aware of it.
The HIPC requirements specify that those seeking UKCP registration can demonstrate some “…element of direct experience as part of their mental health familiarisation”.
UKATA TASC understands ‘direct experience’ to include such experiences as involvement in work, voluntary positions, placements, or personal experience of mental health services, which enables candidates to understand first-hand the experience that their clients may have when engaging with wider mental health services in the UK.
TASC recognises that students usually meet this requirement, but we wished to bring it to the attention of all students. We encourage students to discuss this with their supervisors and their training establishments.
As always, if you have any questions concerning this update please be in touch with us: tasc-enquiries@uka4ta.co.uk. We are always glad to speak to you.
Best wishes,
UKATA Training Accreditation and Standards Committee
